as the plans to camp in vegas fell through as seems inevitable with those who plan things involving me; i was fortunate enough to be able to salvage my sunday by piggy-backing on the plans of some others that i covertly eeked in on.
rated one of the top 10 hikes in the US, i expected a lot. i cannot say i was completely dissapointed as there is certainly an allure to the world's longest slot canyon. i was however, hoping that the hike would be slightly more amphibious than it ultimately was, but i suppose just being outside and out of cedar from 7am until midnight was consolation enough.
my thoughts are jumbled. but canyons are cool. always the impending threat of sudden death in a flash flood. no joke. canyon about 3 feet wide. 100 foot high walls on either side. drainiage from countless miles of desert. if the rain comes down, there is nothing left to do but run and hope you reach a widening before you're swept away, bashed against sandstone walls, knocked unconcious, and ultimately drown. that is assuming your skull hasn't been crushed by a rock or debris. ...so there's always that.
exemplary:

that's me on top all tiny-like. and this was where the walls were comparatively low.

once i get my external hard drive working again and am able to get back on top of the whole webshots thing, there will be a whole buttload more pictures. it'll be awesome. i swears it.
oh, one last thing: when're you coming to visit me?
